HERO PROJECT

What is THE HERO PROJECT?

Being a parent is the most important, most joyful, and most rewarding experience most of us will ever encounter. It’s also the hardest job we’ll ever have. The Hero Project was designed to inspire parents to become superheroes to their children, motivating them to hope more, love more, and do more.

The program highlights real community heroes, and their families, showing that even ordinary parents can help their children achieve extraordinary outcomes.

Every couple of months the Hero Project CHALLENGES parents to do specific family activities together, right at home. These simple “challenges” are designed to bring families closer, make them healthier, and increase opportunities for success in school and life.

We created the Hero Project in an effort to improve health and education outcomes in Lake County, which has long suffered from generations of poor health and low educational outcomes. By improving parenting skills, starting from birth, our goal was to break the generational cycle that has long plagued Lake County residents.

Relying on a partnership with the Lake County Office of Education, and through community sponsors, all school-aged children under age 8 were exposed to the Hero Project. At the time of my resignation, over 50% of the children aged 0-8 in Lake County were enrolled in the Hero Project.

The Hero Project continues to be successful under new direction.
